Spring has sprung and gifted us with beautiful weather and greenery that we all needed. I met up with a wonderful family for their family portraits in Somerset NJ. Being quite local to Somerset (I live here!), I always recommend shooting at Colonial Park, which is exactly where we went!
Firstly, I always recommend meeting first thing in the morning or in the evening- anything to avoid the hot sun in the middle of the sky. In this case, we met in the evening, and the summer sun provided us with amazing light streaming through the trees.
I always make sure to capture a little bit of everyone with everyone.
It’s not every day we all get together for professional portraits. I ensure that everyone in the family gets photographed with each other.
This way, you know you got that special portrait with your loved ones!

This includes shots of the entire family, only the siblings, only the adults, girls only, boys only, and more!
Since this family booked an hour session with me, I made sure to grab a variety of shots with the whole family. We walked up to the D & R Canal and took some shots right on the walking path.
I also had fun getting some candid images of the family walking beside each other. There is something very sweet and authentic about capturing candids, and I like to add them when I can.
Finally, we finished the session with a posed sitting shot. The family wanted something classic to showcase on their walls at home. I positioned them in casual poses for the final shot.
I had such a wonderful time with this family and enjoyed every moment getting to know them and providing them with family portraits for them to cherish!
